ABOUT

Hi, I'm Toby

As a kid, I filled notebooks doodling house facades, convinced I was going to be an architect one day. At nine, I put together my very first book, a single hand-bound copy nobody but me will ever read again, and it still sits on my shelf.

Life took a different turn. These days my day job is in digital education, shaping how people learn rather than how buildings look. But once the sun goes down, the same instinct from those notebooks comes back out, just aimed at patterns instead of houses.

Pattern Coloring started as a way to keep that habit alive. I decided early on to keep every design built around big, simple shapes rather than the kind of detailed, intricate pages that can end up feeling like more work than relaxation.

I color for myself too, and I found that a busy mind doesn't slow down when it's staring at fifty tiny details. It slows down when there's room to just fill in one big shape at a time.

That's the whole idea behind every book here, bold and simple, built for the kind of quiet, screen-free half hour I still look for at the end of a long day.

If you're here because you want that same kind of break, you're in the right place.

I also created Color Studio, an interactive way to try real pages from my books, experiment with different color palettes, and see your ideas come to life.

Next to that, I run Color Challenge, a website that gives you random color ideas for your next page. Random ideas, beautiful results.

Come find me online, I share colored pages and behind-the-scenes bits pretty regularly.
